Light in a can

Light in a can, a project to illuminate avenue du Parc, gives the neighborhood a festive air in an original way.

Clients : Association des commerçants de la rue du Parc
Production dates: Winter 2015

The Mason jar, patented in 1858, is used more than ever in millions of homes in Canada and the United States. It has become an icon of rural and urban craftsmanship. It evokes our ability to transform our daily lives according to our own personal recipe; an object that fits in well with Montreal’s Mile-End district.

The illumination project deploys 2,000 Mason jars transformed into luminaires on Avenue du Parc. Equipped with a photo-luminescent cell and a rechargeable battery, this luminaire becomes a sustainable installation that requires no wiring or energy source! Illumination for 4 to 6 hours a day.

Light in a can revitalized Avenue du Parc for spring and summer 2015. The covered area extends over a length of 1.2 kilometers.

The Seoul Arts and Culture Foundation took up the idea and deployed 5,000 customized solar pots across a Seoul neighborhood in 2018.
