Polar spheres
Montreal, Canada
Transforming the environment into a new magical and fairy-tale territory.
The project offers a modern and interactive exhibition. Visitors can therefore wander around and trigger, through hand movements, animations inside the 25 large vinyl spheres, right in front of Place des Arts. Soundscapes, as well as visual and light effects, are then activated to give visitors a typically Montreal winter experience. You can see youngsters playing hockey, others throwing snowballs, or hear honking horns. It's as if there is life inside the spheres. The original idea was to reproduce the famous little glass globes that you shake to create a snowstorm. The installation explores three themes: winter games, winter lights, and winter in the city, with three different atmospheres. The ambient music is inspired by the works of Wendy Carlos.
