The Magic of Lanterns
Every autumn, tens of thousands of visitors stroll along the paths of the Chinese Garden and discover different aspects of Chinese culture through several hundred traditional Chinese lanterns placed on the Dream Lake and throughout the Garden.
The 2025 edition of The Magic of Lanterns is inspired by the Classic of Mountains and Seas and portrays an image symbolizing the biodiversity of ancient China; it represents a philosophy on the balance of Yin and Yang, a harmony between humans and nature, and a symphony of living together.
A narrative thread brings the legend to life through the grand display of luminous figures placed on the dream lake. We invite the public to experience a gradual transition from chaos to a structured harmony, where each entity comes alive through a visual and sound layer. Like invisible instruments through which reality learns to coexist.
In this story, these entities are not just creatures. They are states of the world, tensions, forces.
